Michelle Calvert- BA Sociology, MA Public Administration
Michelle Calvert began volunteering with Siblings Forever in 2021 at the first holiday camp and was immediately hooked. Since that first experience, she has served on the camp planning committee, joined the board in 2023, and volunteered again at the 2023 holiday camp. She will serve as board secretary beginning in 2024.
Michelle has worked in foster care and adoption for over 20 years. She is currently the Quality Assessment Coordinator for Children’s Home Society of NC where she has worked since 2011. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in public administration with a focus on nonprofit management, both from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. For Michelle, the connection to the mission of Siblings Forever is personal. Her mother and four siblings were raised in foster care; some stayed together but others were separated and lost their sibling connection over time, so she has witnessed firsthand the generational impact this has on families. This experience and these relationships serve as her motivation to help ensure that sibling connections are maintained for youth in care. Michelle has two biological siblings and lots of cousins thanks to her mother's numerous kinship connections from her time in foster care. She and her husband have three grown children and one grandchild. They live in Cornelius, North Carolina.
